October 10th: Film Review: UP 3D in the cinema

Hey guys

Welcome to the 10th entry of Blog Every Day October and Im sort of struggling to try to remember to write posts every day but I hope to get there in the end.

Today is another film review and it was film I went to see yesterday in the cinema called UP.

I know that it came out in America 3 months ago at least and I was really excited for this release. It is Pete Docter's 2nd film after my one of favourite pixar films "Monsters Inc".

So whats the story about

It begins with Carl Fredricksen, a shy and quiet young boy, meets an energetic and outgoing bucktoothed barefooted tomboy named Ellie, discovering they share the same interest in exploration as their hero, famed explorer Charles F. Muntz. Ellie expresses her desire to move her clubhouse to Paradise Falls in South America, a promise she makes Carl keep. Carl and Ellie wed and grow old together in the old house where they first met while making a living as a toy balloon vendor and a zookeeper respectively. Unable to have children, they also try to save up for the trip to Paradise Falls but other financial obligations arise. Just as they seem to finally be able to take their trip, Ellie dies of old age, leaving Carl living alone in their home as a sour recluse with nothing to live for and missing his wife terribly. As the years pass, the city grows around Carl's house with construction as Carl refuses to move. After a tussle with a construction worker over Carl's broken mailbox, the court orders Carl to move into Shady Oaks Retirement Home. Carl comes up with a scheme to keep his promise to Ellie, and uses his old professional supplies to create a makeshift airship using tens of thousands of helium balloons which lift his house off its foundations. Russell, a Wilderness Explorer trying to earn his final merit badge for "Assisting the Elderly", has stowed away on the porch after being sent on a literal snipe hunt by Carl the day before.

Along the way Carl and Russell meet up Kevin a large, flightless tropical bird. Russell impulsively gives the bird a male name, only later learning that Kevin is female. They also meet up Dug, a talking golden retriever[17] with a collar that translates his thoughts into comical-sounding languages (when Russell plays with the collar), and is the odd duck out of a pack of dogs with similar collars.

Now when Arron and myself went to the cinema we decided to see it in 3D which I explain about why it was let down in a bit.

Anyway I loved the story of this film, it was heartwarming and at times I nearly cried especially with the opening when Ellie passed away and when they lost Kevin at one point. Pizar really know what to do with their audiences unlike a lot of film companies when it comes to character, story and situations that could be believable to people. I tip my hat to them.

On the let down points was the 3D, I felt there wasnt enough 3D to make it really good. The glasses were got were good but the way the 3D was done was a real let down.

It was still a brilliant film overall onto the final scores

Final Ratings
Film - 5/5
3D - 2/5 - bit of a let down
Overall - 4/5 - being generous because the film was brilliant

Here's a trailer to the film UP

Here's also a clip when Carl and Russell meet Dug for the first time
