My First Doctor Who Memory

Hello everyone

I was going to do a different blog entry yesterday but couldn't get the right things to say but lucky though I was Twitter this morning and I was reading the Doctor Who Bar Blog and was reading a blog about Tom's earilest memory of watching Doctor Who and he mentioned the 4th Doctor and the story Logopolis.

Want to check out the Doctor Who Bar Blog Click On The Link

Doctor Who Bar Blog

As it is approaching the 48th anniversary of Doctor Who in 2 days and of course Doctor Who Series 6 is being released on DVD & Blu-Ray today, I thought I would talk about my earilest memory with Doctor Who.

I remember it being a Wednesday Autumn night being a 5 year old and it was 1988. I was in a living room just playing with my toys and then on the tele was something a programme that had some errie music and had a wonderful title sequence that was filled with space and stars. It looked wonderful for its time and still does now.

I remember the first story I ever watched very well and it involved the Daleks which was a real concidence to lead into later on. When I saw the first episode of Remembrance Of The Daleks I felt there was something special with the programme. The Doctor was the 7th played by Sylvester McCoy and the companion was Ace played by Sophie Aldred

The setting was very important because it had a link with the very first Doctor Who story back in 1963. The Doctor and Ace go back to investigate whats going on and find there are two dalek factions going after the Hand Of Omega. I wont spoil anymore and let you watch the story. I loved the cliffhangers in episodes 1 & 2 for this story.

Here's a fan trailer of the story

I felt in love with the show after that story thinking at first it was a series of 4 episodes and glad there was, although the rest of the story wasnt as good as the first story but it was fun to watch. Seeing the doctor being a sort of hero/anti-hero that saves the earth and wondering who is he really?

After that I watched the next series which had 4 fantastic stories which included the first time seeing Brigader Lethbridge-Stewart in a story called Battlefield. I really felt the show got so good by the last two stories of that season that I was wanting more. During that time I thought it had taken a rest but found out years ago that it was cancelled by the end of 1989. So the 1990s had no Doctor Who for a long time. I didnt know during that time that it cancelled. It was great and it led to some dark times that made me stop watching the programme by the end of 1990s until it came back in 2005.

One day or maybe tomorrow I will talk about what happened during the 1990s with my Doctor Who fandom, how I got into the Older Doctors and later on with the new Doctors up to Matt Smith.

Thanks for reading

Bad Patches

Hey everyone.

Still blogging which is really good and I keep coming out with topics to talk about. Normally videos help but nowadays it is easier for me to do written entries. Now I am repeating myself.

Normally August is a very mixed month where at the beginning is totally brilliant then by the end of the month it turns into real blues, I was going to curse but I thought no way.

It feels like a curse the end of this month as something really bad happens around me that makes my summer end badly whether it was a member of the family passing away or something going wrong in my life. School had sometimes been like that for me but its down to things happening in my life.

Crazy but true. Im normally really positive when in situations but I feel like when I am work when it comes to this time of year in which I hate it. OK I wont talk about my job anymore haha, unless something really funny happens there.

Everyone in life goes through bad patches for thick or thin. Later on in a week's time I will probably laugh about this haha.

Til next time

Back In The Saddle

Hello everyone

It has been a long time since I last did a blog post talking about what's been going on? It feels like everyone is doing it as well that they dont do blog posts anymore but thats understandable as we all have lives to live and doing what is best for us.

We all wish it was either 2007 and 2008 when everyone was doing blogging but at the end its like growing up and find different things to do and some even move on but hey I have been more busy with my job, voluntary work and doing youtube videos which I am still having fun doing.

Since my last proper blog post in May, I have done a holiday in Bath and also did a gathering there which was good. I always love Bath and the West Country. Wished I live there, it could happen one day maybe when I retire.

The job at Tescos I am not enjoying all the time but still hanging on there because it helps with the rent money at home which is good.

I went to BBQ for my Voluntary which was good and met all the readers which is good.

I have been playing less video games lately but did get Tony Hawk Shred the other day and the board controller is a mixed bag at the moment and I did an unboxing the other day.

Hope to do review in a bit of time but need to play it more. I need to do lots of reviews of different games. I find doing video reviews better than written ones. When it comes to programme or film reviews I would find it easier to do written ones because there is a lot more to explain. I can do Doctor Who reviews in video but sometimes it needs a written article to help it. I may try get back into them as well.

Here is my latest Doctor Who Review

Finally I have been getting into a Thundercats marathon and I have reached half way and up to disc 13 out of 24, which amazes me indeed. Having a struggle at times but will keep going. I cant stop "Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats Ho" haha.

I will blog in a couple of days my afterthoughts of my day at Summer In The City, once I have all the interviews up.

See you guys soon

Doctor Who (1996) Film Review

The intro is created by Matt Gambell

Matt's channel - http://www.youtube.com/mattgambellknowsbest

The music for the Intro is "Scheming Weasel" from InCompetech.com created by Kevin MacLeod which is a royalty free.

Doctor Who Review of the 1996 film starring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor Who. Who has to save the world from the Master played by Eric Roberts. Daphne Ashbrook plays the Companion Grace.

Written by Mathew Jacobs and Directed by Geoffrey Sax

PLOT (Spoilers)

As the film opens, The Master has been tried on Skaro and found guilty of a "list of evil crimes,". His death sentence at the hands of the Daleks has been carried out. His last wish was for his remains to be returned to Gallifrey by his archenemy, the Doctor, currently in his seventh incarnation.

During the trip back to Gallifrey in the Doctor's TARDIS, the vessel shakes, causing the box containing the Master's remains to shatter and allowing a sentient ooze to escape from it. The ooze enters the TARDIS controls and forces an emergency landing in Chinatown in San Francisco, California on New Year's Eve 1999. As the Doctor steps from the TARDIS to find his bearings, he is shot by a gang who are chasing down Chang Lee, a young Chinese-American man. Lee calls for an ambulance, and the Doctor is rushed to a nearby hospital. The surgeons find, through X-rays, that the Doctor has two hearts, but they assume the x-ray image is a double exposure. As cardiologist Dr. Grace Holloway starts to operate with a cardiac probe, the Doctor wakes up, tells her that he needs a beryllium atomic clock, and then falls into a seizure, eventually flatlining. Dr. Holloway declares the Doctor dead, and his body is placed into a morgue. Lee steals the Doctor's possessions, including the TARDIS key, and runs off. Meanwhile, the ooze, which had stowed itself away on the ambulance, attacks and takes over the body of the ambulance driver, Bruce. When Bruce's wife questions his odd behaviour, the Master, now controlling his body murders her.

Late in the night, the Doctor regenerates into a new body, and leaves the morgue in a state of confusion, donning parts of costumes intended for the New Year's Party later that night. He follows Dr. Holloway as she leaves the hospital, and convinces her that he is the same man she operated on earlier. Dr. Holloway, who has lost her job at the hospital as a result of the disastrous operation on him, takes the Doctor to her home. Meanwhile, Lee has returned to the TARDIS with the key, and entered the time machine. The Master arrives soon afterwards and tells Lee that the Doctor stole the TARDIS from him, as well as his body, which he wants to retrieve. He convinces Lee to open the Eye of Harmony thanks to his human retinal pattern.

Infamous 2 Hero Edition and early thoughts of the game

Hey everyone

I got Infamous 2 today a couple of days before the UK release. Here is unboxing of the Hero Edition I got from Play.com.

I had a go at the game and its demo and I am really impressed with the game. You go into a big battle with the Beast that was mentioned by Kessler in the first game. What a battle too. It was really awesome. I feel that Sucker Punch haven't lose it at all with this game. Its a real joy, I will admit the Hero Edition is a bit high on price on what you get. So far I would give it 4.5 out of 5.

Heres a trailer of Infamous 2

Spring Mood Is Wonderful

Hey everyone

I thought I would do a normal blog today just talking about the mood of Spring and how wonderful it can be.

I have always preferred Spring to Summer and Autumn. I would consider Summer as the worst because it gets too warm. I love the air in Spring because it feels really fresh and even though Winter is very cold, the air in that is fresh as well but freezing haha.

The Spring to me always bring a new beginning in phase of my life, I think it does in people. I have stayed local a lot lately for the weather as we have been very lucky. A couple of weeks ago it felt like Summer in terms of weather and temperature which was different as I dont mind some differences. Its one of those things that can fully understand when you reach an certain age or when you are smart enough to understand.

Short thought of Spring.

I have been catching on Doctor Who a lot lately watching not only the new series and the classic series either on DVD or Youtube.

Thats all for now

Doctor Who Planet Of The Spiders DVD Review

Hey everyone

With Doctor Who beginning again on Saturday with the new series, I decided to get back into the flow with reviews again and I decided to review a Classic series story that comes out today on DVD but I got it on Saturday through the post.

PLANET OF THE SPIDERS

Planet Of The Spiders UK DVD Cover

This is Jon Pertwee's last outing as the Doctor and also stars Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. The story is about when a former UNIT member Mike Yates takes Sarah Jane to a Tibetan retreat to show her a group of men using meditation rituals to make contact with an alien power. Turns out to be a connection from Earth to Metebelis 3 which was previously mentioned in the Green Death. On Metebelis 3 it is a planet ruled by Spiders who are masters over man on the planet who want the crystal back, in which Doctor stole and got back from Jo Grant in a letter.

Now the Doctor has to go back to Metebelis 3 to face his worst fear of the Great One who is a giant spider and all of mankind.

I remember first watching this story on UK Gold back in 1998 when they were doing on a Sunday morning depending on the time they were shown. If it was 4 parter it would be 9am in the morning but 6-7 parters would be a 6am start for the story.

This story was written by Robert Sloman and Barry Letts (Uncredited), they came out with a great story, not the best 6 parter story but a good one indeed. I felt the performances of Jon Pertwee was still top of his game and brought the best out of everyone and that is something I notice when I watch Troughton, Tom Baker, Matt Smith as well which is a brilliant quality.

I loved Jonny Kane's performance of Tommy who starts off as someone who has learning difficulties and then once he looks into the crystal he becomes a genius and a great protector. I liked how Sloman and Letts wrote that piece. I do notice in the commentary that Letts said they couldnt do that anymore which I can understand which people would find it a bit shocking how someone with learning difficulties can be treated.

I wished that Nicholas Courtney was in it more but it felt more of an off Earth story than a Earth Story which was one of the reasons why Pertwee decided to leave. Richard Franklin makes an appearence as Captain Yates who is not with UNIT after what happened in Invasion of The Dinosaurs, it was nice twist.

It does feature a lot of actors that were in past Pertwee stories that I didnt know until I watched the Final Curtain.

They were a lot of comedy moments in there which helped the pacing of the story that if it was too serious then I would have lost interest in the story.

I liked how Jon's Doctor was scared in this story when confronting the Great One and thought it gave it some important value that Pertwee's doctor had to face a demon/fear that would lead into the next step.

I loved the final scene involving the Doctor, Sarah Jane and The Brigader where the Doctor is close to death and the touching scene and dialogue from them is really moving and made you close to tears. I thought the way they did the regeneration wasnt the best but the build up to it was great.

Great story overall with great picture and sound quality again from the BBC and 2Entertain.

Onto the extras I listened to the commentary after watching the story later on Saturday and found it interesting to listen to and features Elisabeth Sladen, Nic Courtney (RIP), Richard Franklin, Barry Letts (RIP)and Terrance Dicks. I always enjoy listening to stories by Letts and Dicks on the production which you gave some insight behind the scenes of any story which is great. I was a bit surprised that Elisabeth Sladen was only in the commentary and not in the documentary but to know she doesnt like Spiders back then.

The Final Curtain documentary was really good to watch as it starts with Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks talking about why they wanted to leave and why Jon Pertwee wanted to leave. We will never know why Pertwee really wanted to leave as Pertwee had said that he would have stayed on if his friend Shaun Sutton had paided him more money in which Letts says it is nonsense that Pertwee left because the family was breaking up. It was great to see some Pertwee Archive interview footage in this documentary as it helped with certain parts.

Glen Allen was the narrator in this documentary and did really good job with it. Allen produced a great flow into linking parts of the documentary together which is needed. Great documentary

I liked the Jonny Kane documentary where he talked about that he was in character when he went on a taxi price from his place to the BBC which didnt please the security guard afterwards and it was nice to know that he did Theatre before Doctor Who. Some funny stuff in there.

Directing Who with Barry Letts is really interesting and was glad it was recorded before Letts death in October 2009. He talked how he made the switch from an actor to a director and how he involved with Doctor Who at first with the Enemy Of The World story starring Patrick Troughton. It was good when he became producer that he was allowed to direct at least one story per season under his run. Letts also talked about the Classic Serial that he did afterwards. Now the music used I know is called "Eternal Hope" from Kevin MacLeod because I used this piece of music in my World Autism Awareness Day video that I did eariler in the month, which was really cool.

The Now & Then documentary was good to see where they filmed and what they turned into now which is great for any fan.

The Omnibus Edition is a shorter version but done as 105 minute film version of the story which is one they showed to audiences in 1974 the day before Tom Baker's debut story "Robot"

Overall I found the DVD to be a real joy to watch with the story being good and the extras being fantastic as they seem to get better in every release that I get.

I give this 9/10 defintely worth getting if you are a Pertwee fan and a Doctor Who fan

Bye for now and cant wait until Saturday

Great Days Are Always Around

Hey everyone

I realise that I havent done a normal blog entry in a really long time talking about whats going on in my life but I have Youtube, Audioboo and Dailybooth just to help me out.

Anyway I decided to give my blog another go. Lots of great things have happened to me lately and I felt that I wanted to share them.

I went to a Bristol Youtube Gathering 13 days ago and it proved to be one of the best gatherings I ever went to. It so reminded me of 2007 and early 2008 gatherings I went to because it felt new and fresh. As a friend said on Facebook it is a new generation of Youtubers that attended the event and had fun along the way. It was a wonderful feeling returning to Bristol. I consider it a place like Bath a place away from Home that made me feel comfortable.

There are a number of gathering videos including a couple of outstanding ones from my friend Ray (Ir0nIsland)

I know it is a lot of videos but there are some really funny ones and well edited ones. Bristol 2011 gathering will be remembered.

After that everything that was a dream became a reality apart from my Dad going into Hospital for a shoulder injury, lucky though he had an operation and is ok, I hope to see him again in hospital if not this weekend maybe next week before I go for the Youtube Stars event in London.

Like I said in the title, great days are always around as long you dont take them for granted.

On Wednesday I got an Ipad 2 through the post as I ordered one as soon they were in stock at Tescos because I get a 10% discount and Im loving it. On the same day it was when Michael Aranda was trapped in France which is a surprise, I hope he does get back into the UK but at the same moment no luck.

On Thursday I received my prize from a competition that I won for review of the month for my review of Gran Turismo 5 I did back in November.

I won all this kit and problem is I aint got a Desktop PC so it could be a while before I can try out this kit but hope to one day. My friend Michael (Micgamer16) suggested I could give it away to my subscribers in a competition, if I remember one day and if I feel I aint going to get any use out of it after a while.

Heres a picture of the kit

What a week for me but I hope others are having a great week at the moment.

Also I would like to leave on a positive note

Its always brilliant to see a great video from my man NSG and his friends Miz Kaz and Logic

Take it easy everyone

Why Dont Video Game Shows Exist Anymore?

I remember a time as a child there used to be a few video game shows that was TV whether it was Free TV (ITV and Channel 4) or Sky. There are three shows that I can remember

Gamesmaster (Channel 4 between 1992 and 1998)
Games World (Sky 1 between 1993 and 1995)
Bad Influence (ITV Yorkshire Production between 1992 and 1996)

These three shows formed my childhood in the later years leading to my Teenage years. These three shows were very good in their own way.

Gamesmaster was a show presented by Dominik Diamond and Patrick Moore apart from Series 3 done by Dexter Fletcher who I thought was good in small doses but Dominik was way better in the presenting role. Never saw Patrick Moore to be a gamer type probably someone who thought of doing the show just for money but thats my opinion.

There was Games World which I found more interesting probably because it was 5 days a week and it would have Monday and Friday doing the main show and the rest of the week covered by reviews, Live show and cheats in the first series. By the second series they had a series called Barry JoyPad's which featured a pre-fame David Williams from Little Britain which was a really funny show on a Tuesday, bit childish for my liking nowadays but hey. I remember Jet from Gladitors was in it and god she was hot.

Finally there was Bad Influence which was more a feature show on a Thursday afternoon on CITV when it was free TV and not have its own channel like now. I liked that they focused on the game in more detail than the other two shows and felt more for a younger audience but felt it didnt have the punch of GamesMaster and Games World.

In 1996 Bad Influence was put to dust as it was a shame that people werent watching that I have found out.

By 1998 all 3 of these shows were gone. Games Master didnt fit into the Channel 4 under their new controller I found out recently and ended a week before my 15th Birthday. Games World really sucked in 1998 by doing 15 minute segments every morning along with the new series that everyone knows as a Pokemon.

Its weird, I think it was also a period where I lost interesting in gaming in a way. I dont know I was more into watching music videos and TV shows also trying to get my coursework.

A lot of people take video games only for the younger market but thats not true maybe around that period of the mid 90's I would have believed that.

The mainstream media in my view dont take video games seriously at all unless it is the release of a new Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty which have been labeled for Criticism for being really violent and real. There are times with the media that I feel that they only report on it when they havent tried out the game itself then I would believe their argument.

I have played of God Of War games and its more violent than them two but doesnt get the media coverage of them two games.

Im going off the point here, I know there are video game programming on Youtube and Internet but I do wish there was one show like the 3 I mentioned that was on TV but then again people have said TV is dead.

Ah well I thought I would leave you with clips from each of the 3 shows to give you an idea

Thanks for reading everyone

Birthday and Other Updates (Written Blog at last)

Good Morning Guys

I have not done a written blog in a long time and I have nearly forgotten how to do one of these. I know that some people who read my blog in the past may have moved on which is understandable. Lately my posts have been Youtube videos, as I had nothing esle to say with it.

Anyway things have been a little strange for me. I have been waking up at 4am quite a bit lately which isnt good for my body clock. I had to wake up at that time for the early morning shifts at my job but it stuck with my me for last couple of days. I hope it does disappear after my shift today otherwise I feel I am in trouble.

I have been watching a lot of Top Gear over the last couple of weeks, it includes these

I have to say I like the Challenges and Adventures DVDs they released as they are more interesting to see than testing car dvds which I dont mind watching on TV once and then thats it.

My birthday the other week was really good and had some fun the next few days afterwards. On my birthday I took my family out for a meal to Harvester and it was fun then I got back to find out I had a package and needed to pay £15 for a custom charge which is digusting and never going to order a lot in one order from the states again. I also got a load of presents which include a couple of toys which are shown here

My Toy Shelf

Im proud of all the toys.

The Following day I went to Portsmouth to see Danny and we looked around. We also went to the D Day Museum which was really good as we watched a film about D Day and the leading days of the second World War. It was interesting indeed then at around 5 o'clock we went on the Spinnaker Tower and it was scary at first but got used to the height afterwards. It was brilliant up there.

Saturday I had a gathering for my birthday and it was awesome

Friends (TV Sitcom) Looking Back Review

Over the last week I looked on my DVD/Blu-Ray and Video Game shelves and found Friends Season 1-10 Boxset and felt like doing a looking back review.

Information about Friends from Wikipedia

Friends is an American sitcom created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which aired on NBC from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The series revolves around a group of friends in the borough of Manhattan, New York City. The series was produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. The original executive producers were Crane, Kauffman and Kevin S. Bright, with numerous others being promoted in later seasons.

Kauffman and Crane began developing Friends under the title Insomnia Cafe in November/December 1993. They presented the idea to Bright, with whom they had previously worked, and together they pitched a seven-page treatment of the series to NBC. After several script rewrites and changes, including a second title change to Friends Like Us, the series was finally named Friends and premiered on NBC's coveted Thursday 8:30 pm timeslot. Filming for the series took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California in front of a live studio audience. After ten seasons on the network, the series finale was promoted by NBC, and viewing parties were organized around the U.S. The series finale (the 236th episode), airing on May 6, 2004, was watched by 52.5 million American viewers, making it the fourth most-watched series finale in television history and the most watched episode of the decade.

Friends received positive reviews throughout most of its run, becoming one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. The series won many awards and was nominated for 63 Primetime Emmy Awards. The series, an instant hit from its debut, was also very successful in the ratings, consistently ranking in the top ten in the final primetime ratings. It is now often regarded by critics to be one of the finest shows in television history. The series made a large cultural impact, which continues today. The Central Perk coffee house that was featured prominently in the series has inspired various imitations throughout the world. The series continues in syndication worldwide. All 10 seasons are available on DVD. The spin-off series Joey was created to follow up with the series after the finale.

Little Big Planet 2 Review (Playstation 3)

This is my review of Little Big Planet 2 for the Playstation 3.

Little Big Planet 2 website - http://www.littlebigplanet.com/

It is created by Media Molecule a UK Based gaming company.

The Narrator is Stephen Fry

It is a wonderful game that has a creativity and great storyline within the single player.

5/5 overall.

The Intro music is "Enter The Party" by Kevin McLeod from Incomptech.com which is a royalty free site music.

Plot/Story Mode (Single Player/Multiplayer)

Players continue Sackboy's journey after the events of the first game and the portable version are brought to an end. An inter-dimensional vacuum cleaner appears over the skies of LittleBigPlanet and begins to suck up its inhabitants, including Sackboy. Larry Da Vinci, the leader of a semi-secret semi-organised group known as "The Alliance", comes to Sackboy's rescue saving him from what they call "The Negativitron." The organisation is dedicated to battling with "The Negativitron" and defeating it before it destroys Craftworld.

Information on the game from Wikipedia
While still retaining the three-layer, 2.5D nature of the original title, with the player controlling their Sackboy characters, players are not restricted solely to platforming levels, and can now choose to create many types of levels including racing, puzzle and role-playing games. The player may also choose to create and customise their own heads-up display to accommodate their game type. New animation recording options are available and players will be able to create full-motion cut-scenes to go with their level design, manipulate the camera for both cut-scenes and gameplay, and record their own sound effects for use in the level. As well as including a wide selection of original and licensed music, the game also includes a robust music sequencer. Multiple levels can be linked together, so that finishing one level immediately takes the player to the next in the series.
